Former Defence Ministry spokesman, Major General John Enenche (rtd), has reacted to the reported United States military missile strikes on terrorist hideouts in parts of Sokoto State, describing the action as a necessary step in the fight against insecurity. He said the development sends a strong signal to armed groups operating in the region.
Enenche noted that the strikes show growing international support for Nigeria’s efforts to end terrorism and banditry. According to him, such cooperation will help weaken criminal networks and reduce their capacity to carry out attacks on innocent communities.
He also warned individuals who openly or secretly support terrorists to reconsider their actions, saying that anyone who aids insecurity is equally responsible for the suffering it causes. He stressed that sympathising with violent groups only prolongs instability and hardship across the country.
The retired military officer added that while military action alone cannot solve all security problems, it remains a key tool in restoring peace. He urged authorities to combine security operations with dialogue, intelligence sharing and development efforts to achieve lasting stability.
