FG set to deploy 7,000 forest guards across Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to deploy 7,000 forest guards across the country. The move aims to strengthen the protection of Nigeria’s forests, curb illegal logging, and address environmental degradation.

Authorities say the forest guards will be trained to monitor forest reserves, prevent poaching, and respond to illegal activities that threaten biodiversity. The initiative is part of the government’s wider environmental protection and conservation strategy.

The deployment will cover all states, focusing on vulnerable areas prone to deforestation and encroachment. Officials hope that the presence of trained personnel will deter illegal activities and promote sustainable forest management.

Experts have welcomed the plan, emphasizing that such proactive measures are essential for preserving Nigeria’s natural resources. They stressed that proper supervision and community involvement will be key to the program’s success.
