Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has urged President Bola Tinubu to stop what he described as the “soft handling” of terrorists following reports that the United States carried out airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Nigeria. Adeyanju said the situation shows that Nigeria’s insecurity has reached a level where foreign help is stepping in, which should worry the government and citizens alike.
According to Adeyanju, the federal government has been too slow and too careful in dealing with violent groups, allowing them to regroup and continue attacking innocent people. He argued that terrorism should be met with firm and decisive action, not sympathy or political caution. He warned that failure to act boldly will only embolden criminal groups and worsen the security crisis.
The activist said the alleged US military action should serve as a wake-up call to Nigeria’s leaders. He stressed that no country should be comfortable allowing outsiders to handle its internal security challenges. Adeyanju called on the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve the capacity of the armed forces, and show clear political will to defeat terrorism.
He concluded by urging President Tinubu to place national security above politics and personal interests. Adeyanju said Nigerians deserve to live without fear and that restoring safety across the country must be treated as an emergency. He added that firm leadership and consistency are the only ways to end the cycle of violence.
