Jonathan didn’t approve $2.1bn arms deal money for campaigns – Magu

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has stated that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan did not approve the use of $2.1 billion from an arms deal for political campaigns. Magu made this clarification amid allegations that linked Jonathan to the funds.

He explained that investigations conducted at the time showed no evidence of Jonathan’s involvement in diverting the money to election activities. Magu emphasized that the arms deal was strictly related to government procurement and national security matters.

According to Magu, it is important to separate unverified claims from factual findings. He argued that spreading misinformation about such a large sum could harm the reputation of past leaders and undermine public trust in governance.

Magu’s clarification comes as part of ongoing discussions around accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s arms procurement history. He urged Nigerians to focus on verified reports and the outcomes of formal investigations rather than rumors.
