Four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers announced their defection, citing political realignment and the need to work more closely with the ruling party at the federal level.
According to them, the decision was taken after wide consultations with their constituents and political supporters. They explained that the move would help them attract more development projects and strengthen their voices in national decision-making.
The APC leadership welcomed the defectors, describing their entry as a boost to the party’s growing influence in Rivers State. Party leaders said the development shows increasing confidence in APC’s leadership and policies ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, the PDP has downplayed the defections, insisting that it remains strong in Rivers State. The party said it would continue to focus on its structures and supporters despite the loss of the four federal lawmakers.
