Ex-governor Bafarawa’s supporters defect from PDP to APC in Sokoto

Supporters of former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State. The defection was announced at a political gathering where the defectors said they were seeking a new political direction.

Leaders of the group explained that their decision was based on dissatisfaction with the PDP’s internal structure and the need to align with a party they believe can better deliver development. They said the APC offers a stronger platform to pursue their political goals ahead of future elections.

APC officials in Sokoto welcomed the new members, describing the move as a boost to the party’s strength in the state. Party leaders assured the defectors of equal opportunities and inclusion in party activities, urging them to work together to grow the APC.

Political observers say the defection could reshape Sokoto’s political landscape, especially with Bafarawa remaining a respected figure in the state. The development is expected to intensify political realignments as parties prepare for upcoming contests.
