Borno residents vote as PDP, ADC boycott LG elections

Residents across Borno State turned out to vote in the local government elections despite the absence of major opposition parties. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) boycotted the polls, citing concerns over the electoral process and lack of trust in the arrangements made by authorities.

Voting took place in several local government areas, with security personnel deployed to maintain order. Electoral officials said the exercise was generally peaceful, although turnout was lower in some areas compared to previous elections. Many voters who participated said they wanted grassroots leadership in place despite the boycott.

The PDP and ADC explained that their decision to stay away was based on what they described as unfair conditions and unresolved issues surrounding the election. Party leaders argued that participating would only legitimize a process they believed was flawed, while calling for reforms in future local polls.

Meanwhile, the Borno State government and election officials defended the process, insisting that the election met required standards. They urged political parties to engage constructively and assured residents that elected council officials would focus on development and service delivery at the local level.
