Former Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso has shared his thoughts on why the Spanish giants were beaten by Manchester City in their latest UEFA Champions League clash. According to Alonso, Real Madrid struggled to control the rhythm of the game, which allowed Manchester City to dominate key moments. He noted that City’s fast passing and constant pressure made it difficult for Madrid to settle.
Alonso explained that Manchester City were more organised in midfield and used their ball possession wisely. He added that Real Madrid could not keep up with City’s speed when transitioning from defence to attack. This, he said, made Madrid chase the game instead of dictating it, giving City the upper hand throughout the match.
He also pointed out that Real Madrid missed several chances that could have changed the outcome. Alonso stressed that at Champions League level, small mistakes make a big difference, and Madrid paid for their errors. He praised City’s discipline, saying they deserved the win because they executed their game plan better.
Despite the loss, Alonso encouraged Real Madrid fans to stay positive, reminding them that the club always finds a way to bounce back. He expressed confidence that the team would learn from the defeat and return stronger in future UCL games.
