Nasarawa Assembly suspends Lafia LG Chairman for 90 days over leadership crisis

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area for 90 days following a serious leadership crisis in the council. The decision came after lawmakers reviewed complaints and reports alleging breakdown of governance within the local government.

Members of the Assembly said the suspension was necessary to restore order and allow for an independent investigation into the issues affecting the council. They noted that internal conflicts, poor coordination, and disagreements among officials had disrupted the smooth running of Lafia LG.

During the suspension period, the Assembly directed that normal administrative activities must continue without interference. Lawmakers also warned other council officials to cooperate fully with the investigation and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.

The Assembly stressed that the action was not meant to punish the chairman but to protect public interest. It added that once the investigation is completed, appropriate decisions will be taken based on the findings.
