A resident of Oworonshoki, Lagos, whose home was recently demolished, has appealed to the government for assistance. Speaking to journalists, the victim said, “We are not animals; we need help to rebuild our lives.” The demolition has left several families homeless, creating a humanitarian concern in the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the demolition exercise was carried out by government authorities citing urban planning regulations. However, residents claimed they were given little or no notice, leaving them confused and frustrated. Many expressed disappointment over the lack of compensation or alternative housing support.
Community leaders have also joined the call, urging the Lagos State government to provide relief materials and assistance to affected families. They emphasized the need for a fair approach that balances urban development with the welfare of residents. The victims hope the authorities will respond quickly to their plight.
The government has yet to issue an official statement regarding support for the displaced families. Meanwhile, the Oworonshoki residents continue to appeal for help, hoping for a resolution that will allow them to recover and rebuild their homes. The incident has sparked public debate on humane urban planning practices in Lagos.
