A new political tension is rising in Rivers State as the State House of Assembly has expressed concern over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s delay in submitting names of commissioners for approval. Lawmakers say the governor has kept the state running without a full executive team for too long, creating gaps in governance. They insist that the delay is affecting key ministries and slowing down government operations.
Members of the Assembly noted that presenting a full list of commissioners is an important constitutional responsibility. They argued that the absence of confirmed commissioners makes it difficult for ministries to plan effectively or execute development projects. Some legislators warned that the situation could trigger another round of political disagreements if not addressed quickly.
The lawmakers stressed that Rivers State needs stable leadership, especially with rising insecurity and economic challenges. They urged Governor Fubara to act quickly and avoid actions that may suggest he is sidelining the Assembly. According to them, timely appointments will help restore public confidence and ensure ministries function properly.
Political observers say the delay could worsen the fragile relationship between the governor and the House. They advised both sides to embrace dialogue and avoid steps that may heat up the political environment. Many citizens are hoping the matter is resolved soon to keep the state focused on development rather than conflict.
