Civil society organizations (CSOs) have called on Nigerian lawmakers to finalize the 2025 constitution review without further delays. They stressed that prolonged postponements could affect governance and democratic processes across the country. According to them, timely completion of the review is critical for national stability.
The CSOs emphasized that the constitution review must address key issues such as electoral reforms, federal-state relations, and citizens’ rights. They urged legislators to act in the interest of Nigerians and avoid political maneuvering that could stall progress.
Lawmakers have been criticized for the slow pace of deliberations on the proposed amendments. Civil society groups warned that continued delays might undermine public trust in the legislative process and create uncertainty ahead of the 2025 general elections.
The organizations concluded by urging both the National Assembly and the executive branch to prioritize the constitution review, ensuring it reflects the needs and aspirations of Nigerians. They reiterated that timely action is necessary to strengthen democracy in the country.
