Senator Francis Fadahunsi has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint a retired military officer as Nigeria’s next National Security Adviser (NSA). He said the nation needs someone with deep experience in defence operations to guide the fight against insecurity. According to him, the position should not be given based on politics but on competence and past service.
Fadahunsi stressed that insecurity is still one of Nigeria’s biggest challenges, and the country requires a professional who has served in the armed forces to lead the nation’s security strategy. He explained that retired officers understand the terrain, the training, and the mindset needed to confront modern threats facing the country.
The senator added that a former senior military officer would bring discipline, strategic thinking, and a clear command structure to the office. He believes such leadership will help strengthen coordination among the military, police, and intelligence agencies. This, he said, is necessary to reduce rising cases of kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism.
Fadahunsi urged President Tinubu to make the decision quickly so that Nigeria can begin a fresh phase of security reforms. He noted that stability and economic progress depend strongly on the safety of citizens, and choosing the right NSA will play a major role in restoring peace across the country.
