Borno: Troops free another 12 kidnap victims after firefight in Mandara Mountains

Troops operating in Borno State have rescued another set of 12 kidnapped victims during a fierce gun battle in the Mandara Mountains. The operation, carried out by military units fighting insurgency in the region, followed credible intelligence reports about the hideout of the criminals. The soldiers moved into the area determined to secure the victims and weaken the kidnappers’ operations.

According to military sources, the troops engaged the armed kidnappers in a heavy firefight before gaining full control of the camp. Despite the difficult terrain of the Mandara Mountains, the soldiers were able to overpower the criminals and safely evacuate all 12 victims. No casualties were recorded among the rescued individuals.

Residents have praised the military for the successful mission, noting that the Mandara region has long been a hot spot for kidnapping and insurgent activity. Many expressed relief that more captives are returning to safety, while also calling for continuous security presence in remote communities prone to attacks.

Security experts say the rescue shows the effectiveness of recent intensified operations in Borno. They urged the government and military to sustain the pressure on armed groups to prevent them from regrouping. The rescue, they said, also brings hope to families still waiting for their missing loved ones to be found.
