Residents of some communities in Ibadan have taken to the streets to protest the planned extension of the Ibadan circular road project. The angry residents blocked major roads, saying the new road design will affect their homes and properties.
According to protesters, the government’s decision to expand the project will lead to the demolition of many houses and businesses. They complained that they were not properly informed before the plan was announced. The residents insisted they should be consulted and compensated fairly before any construction continues.
During the protest, the demonstrators carried placards and chanted slogans demanding that the government listen to their concerns. They said they support development, but not at the expense of their livelihood and homes. They also appealed to the state governor to step in and find a peaceful solution.
Some of the affected community leaders expressed disappointment, saying they have lived in the area for many years and cannot simply be displaced without proper arrangements. They called for dialogue to protect the rights of residents while allowing the project to progress.
The protest caused heavy traffic and slowed movement around the affected roads. The residents vowed to continue peaceful demonstrations until their voices are heard and a fair resolution is reached.
