Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has finally spoken regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comment suggesting that Christians are being targeted and killed in Nigeria. Trump’s statement has stirred global reactions, with many calling for clarity and verification of the claims.
Soyinka addressed the issue by urging Nigerians to avoid ethnic and religious division. He stressed that sensitive topics like religious killings should not be used for political agendas or to inflame tensions. According to him, the country has already suffered enough from insecurity, and spreading fear or unverified claims can worsen the situation.
The renowned writer highlighted that Nigeria’s security issues affect citizens across different faiths and communities. He called for united efforts to solve the nation’s problems, instead of allowing external commentary to trigger social unrest or hatred among citizens.
Soyinka encouraged leaders and citizens to keep demanding accountability and transparency from security agencies, adding that only truth and collective action can help Nigeria overcome insecurity.
