The Benue State Government has launched a biometric registration exercise for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state, aiming to issue new identification cards to improve tracking and support services. The initiative seeks to enhance the welfare, security, and assistance provided to displaced residents affected by conflicts and other emergencies.
Officials explained that the new ID cards will make it easier for the government and humanitarian agencies to provide timely aid, including food, healthcare, and shelter, while ensuring that records are accurate and up to date. The exercise is also intended to strengthen the management and protection of vulnerable populations in the state.
The State Coordinator for IDPs urged all eligible residents to participate in the registration process to ensure they benefit from government programs. He emphasized that the biometric system will reduce duplication and increase transparency in the distribution of aid.
Local authorities have been deployed across IDP camps to oversee the registration, provide information, and assist residents in completing their applications. The government assured that the process would be free, efficient, and accessible to all displaced persons.
The Benue State Government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of IDPs, promising continued support and improvements in the delivery of social services, while calling on citizens to cooperate with officials during the exercise.
