Joe Igbokwe, a prominent political figure, has mocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State ahead of the ongoing governorship election. He stated that the party is already preparing to shout “rigging” even before the results are announced.
Igbokwe’s comments came during a press briefing where he described the ADC’s claims as premature and an attempt to create tension. He urged political parties to focus on fair participation rather than making unfounded allegations.
The politician further stated that Anambra residents deserve credible elections and that the electorate should be allowed to exercise their votes without interference from baseless accusations. He expressed confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is prepared to conduct transparent polls.
Igbokwe’s remarks come as the Anambra governorship election sees heightened competition among parties, with APGA and APC dominating most polling units. Political observers note that early allegations of rigging are common in highly contested states.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to maintain peace and patience, emphasizing that attempts to preemptively delegitimize the election process would only harm democracy in the state.
