Kwara CP orders investigation into alleged extortion by officers

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, has directed a full investigation into claims that some officers were involved in extorting road users along the Osi–Eruku highway in Ekiti Local Government Area, Kwara South.

In a statement released in Ilorin on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the police confirmed that a video circulating on social media showed officers allegedly demanding money from motorists on duty along the road.

According to the statement, the police command is taking the matter seriously and the Commissioner has ordered an immediate and thorough inquiry. If the officers are identified and found guilty, strong disciplinary actions will follow.

The command also assured residents that it remains focused on maintaining professionalism, integrity, and accountability in policing duties across the state. It urged the public to continue reporting misconduct to help improve policing standards.
