EFCC begins investigation on Oladip’s extortion allegation against operatives

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has opened an investigation into allegations made by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips. The music star claimed that some EFCC operatives extorted ₦10 million from him before granting him freedom after an arrest linked to suspected internet fraud cases.

According to a statement from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Saturday, the Commission is taking the allegation seriously. He confirmed that the officers involved have been removed from operational duties pending the conclusion of the investigation. Oyewale added that the EFCC is committed to transparency and will uncover the truth behind the claims.

Oladips had earlier stated that he paid ₦10 million to secure his release from EFCC custody. His accusation has since stirred reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and transparency in the agency’s operations.

However, Oyewale stressed that the rapper’s description of the EFCC was not a true reflection of the agency’s values. He noted that if the investigation proves the claims false and malicious, the Commission will take necessary action against the false accusation.

The EFCC urged the public to remain patient and trust the investigative process. The agency also assured Nigerians of its continued dedication to the fight against corruption and adherence to professionalism.
