Anambra election: Violence won’t be tolerated – NSA warns

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has warned politicians and political parties in Anambra State to avoid any form of violence ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election. He stressed that the Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the peace during the poll.

Ribadu gave the warning on Tuesday during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. Represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Abdullahi, the NSA assured that the government is fully prepared to maintain law and order throughout the election period.

He explained that political leaders and stakeholders have been engaged in dialogue to promote peaceful participation and discourage political thuggery. “We are engaging with political leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated,” Ribadu said.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has directed the strategic deployment of security agencies to ensure safety and transparency before, during, and after the election. Ribadu added that intelligence gathering, surveillance, and the presence of security personnel will be intensified across Anambra to prevent troublemakers from influencing the process.

The NSA reaffirmed that the Federal Government’s goal is to create a secure environment that allows citizens to freely choose their next governor without fear or intimidation. He called on all political parties, candidates, and supporters to commit to peace and respect democratic values during the polls.
