PDP crisis deepens as Lamido threatens legal action after being denied chairmanship form

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has threatened to take legal action against the party after being denied the opportunity to obtain the nomination form for the National Chairmanship position.

Lamido arrived at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Monday morning, intending to purchase the form ahead of the National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. However, he was allegedly stopped by party officials, a move he described as undemocratic and contrary to the founding principles of the PDP.

Speaking to journalists, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his disappointment and vowed to seek legal redress if the situation was not corrected. “I came here to buy the form for the chairmanship position, but I was denied. This is not the democracy our party stands for,” Lamido stated. “If this continues, I will have no choice but to go to court for justice.”

Lamido had earlier announced his intention to contest through a post on his verified Facebook page, confirming his plan to visit Wadata Plaza to pick up the form. His denial has, however, sparked outrage among some of his supporters, who believe the move is part of internal power struggles aimed at sidelining key members.

The development comes amid growing tension within the PDP as the party prepares for its national convention, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected. Party insiders say the event could determine the PDP’s future direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
