APC will not implode over defections – Bayelsa chieftain tackles Nabena

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Comrade Kenelayefa Stevens, has debunked recent remarks by former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, suggesting that the party may implode due to ongoing defections. Stevens described Nabena’s statements as misleading and politically motivated, aimed at undermining the growing strength of the party.

In a statement on Monday, Stevens accused Nabena of spreading false concerns about the APC’s stability, noting that the former spokesperson’s political influence had greatly diminished. He questioned Nabena’s dedication to the party, stating that “it’s hard to take seriously someone who stays in a hotel on election day instead of joining his team at the polling units.”

Stevens further challenged Nabena to make public his polling unit results from 2015 till date, asserting that his political record shows poor performance and lack of commitment. He alleged that Nabena was acting on behalf of Chief Timipre Sylva and NDDC Managing Director, Chief (Dr.) Samuel Ogbuku, as part of a plan to protect their waning influence in Bayelsa politics.

Speaking on Governor Douye Diri’s defection to the APC, Stevens described it as a strategic political advantage that would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said, “Politics is a game of numbers, and Governor Diri’s entry into the APC represents unity and growth. He has shown leadership and inclusiveness that will benefit the entire state.”

The Bayelsa APC leader commended the party’s National Chairman for his effective leadership and administrative skill, which he said have kept the APC united and forward-looking. Stevens emphasized that no amount of propaganda would derail the party’s progress, expressing full confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the national executive committee’s ability to deliver continued success.
