Former Labour Party national officer Kenneth Okonkwo has raised alarm over alleged intimidation of opposition parties by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Okonkwo claimed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has come under repeated attacks while trying to hold meetings across different states in Nigeria.
According to him, the ADC’s political activities have been violently disrupted in states like Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti, allegedly by thugs operating under the protection of security agencies. He described these incidents as deliberate attempts to silence opposition voices and undermine democracy. “ADC is on fire. The APC is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” Okonkwo stated.
The actor-turned-politician accused the ruling party of manipulating security institutions to frustrate opposition gatherings, which he said violates the Electoral Act’s provisions guaranteeing equal rights and protection for all political parties. He urged Nigerians and the international community to pay attention to what he described as “systematic political oppression.”
Despite the alleged intimidation, Okonkwo expressed optimism about the future of the ADC, maintaining that the party is focused and determined to take over power in 2027. He claimed that the APC is already showing signs of internal collapse, saying, “ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The APC is imploding, and their endorsements are nothing but the gathering of sycophants.”
Okonkwo concluded by calling for stronger democratic institutions and equal political space for all parties, insisting that Nigeria’s future depends on fair competition, justice, and transparency in the electoral process.
