Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested several suspected street urchins for allegedly harassing motorists in different parts of Lagos State. The arrests were part of a coordinated sting operation aimed at curbing the activities of area boys who extort and attack drivers, especially those whose vehicles break down on highways. The operation was confirmed in a statement by the RRS on its official X handle on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
According to the statement, the sting operations were conducted at major black spots in Lagos known for such criminal activities. The targeted areas included Old Toll Gate/Motorways (Ketu), Adeniji Adele (Third Mainland Bridge), and Ile Epo (Agbado). Several suspects were apprehended during the raids, particularly in Ketu. The arrested individuals were identified as Kayode Sulaiman (30), Basiru Saheed (33), Ekene Ifeanyi (20), Ile-Ifa Sherif (27), and Adeleke Sakiru (23) — three of whom were revealed to be ex-convicts.
In a related development, the RRS disclosed that on October 11, 2025, its officers responded to a distress call from a passerby at Ile Epo, who was attacked and robbed of two mobile phones by hoodlums. Acting on intelligence, operatives arrested Alabi Wasiu, one of the prime suspects, alongside the buyer of one of the stolen phones. Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Mustapha Alabi (24), popularly known as Alabi Yellow, who reportedly confessed to the crime.
The Commander of the RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye, assured Lagosians that the police will continue to clamp down on street urchins and miscreants terrorizing motorists and pedestrians across the state. He emphasized that maintaining law and order remains a top priority and vowed that such operations will be sustained without compromise.
All the arrested suspects have since been charged to court, as authorities continue their efforts to rid Lagos highways and public areas of criminal elements who pose threats to safety and order.
