I Never Wanted Regina To Marry Ned Nwoko — Rita Daniels

Rita Daniels, mother of popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has revealed that she initially opposed her daughter’s marriage to billionaire politician, Senator Ned Nwoko. Rita made the confession during an interview with BBC News Igbo, where she debunked claims that she “sold” her daughter into marriage.

According to Rita, she was the last person to find out about Regina’s relationship with Nwoko. She said that people wrongly accused her of arranging the marriage for personal gain. “When Regina got married, people said I was the one who forced her. They said I sold my daughter to an old man. What they didn’t know was that I didn’t even know when they started dating,” she explained.

Rita further disclosed that she questioned Regina about the rumors, only to realize her daughter was already serious about Nwoko. “My daughter started talking back to me, something she never did before. That was when I knew she was determined,” she said. The actress’s mother also mentioned that Nwoko only approached her for marriage after his political campaign, leaving her with little choice but to support her daughter’s decision.

She admitted feeling powerless when Regina insisted on marrying Nwoko, explaining that she had to stand by her daughter as a mother. “I was weak, but what was I to do? I stood with my daughter. Was I to chase her away?” Rita said. “People have said a lot about her, but what matters to me is that she is happy where she is.”

Rita concluded that she would rather face public criticism herself than allow people to insult her daughter. “If they want to blame anyone, let them blame me,” she said. “I will take the insults as long as my family remains at peace.”
