The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has explained the true meaning of jihad, saying it is not about violence or killing people. He stated that jihad simply means striving to be a better Muslim, Christian, and human being by living a good and righteous life.
According to the Sultan, the word has often been misinterpreted and linked with terrorism, but in reality, it calls for self-discipline, service to humanity, and peaceful living with others. He stressed that religion should unite people, not divide them through hate or bloodshed.
The Sultan urged Nigerians and the world to embrace the correct understanding of jihad by working to improve themselves and their communities. He noted that peace, tolerance, and compassion remain the true foundations of faith.
