Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the recent fire that destroyed Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday.
The governor also sympathized with companies that lost staff members in the tragic incident and traders whose shops and goods were consumed in a separate blaze at Emab Plaza, a four-storey building behind Mandilas on Taiwo Street. The second fire broke out just hours after the Afriland Towers inferno, destroying properties worth millions of naira and leaving traders devastated.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured residents that the government shares in their grief and is committed to strengthening safety measures and emergency response capacity across the state. He commended the efforts of first responders while emphasizing the need for greater vigilance in preventing future tragedies.
“As we mourn, Lagos mourns with you,” Sanwo-Olu said. “We must draw strength from one another during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with every family, every colleague, and every trader who has been affected by these unfortunate incidents.”
