National Assembly Blocks Senator Natasha’s resumption

The National Assembly has stopped Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from returning to her duties, even though her six-month suspension has ended.

The Kogi Central lawmaker had written to inform the Assembly that she was ready to resume her legislative work after the suspension period.

Although the Assembly is on recess, the acting clerk responded that her suspension is still being reviewed in court. As a result, she cannot be allowed back into the Senate until the legal process is completed and the Senate considers the court’s ruling.

In his letter, Acting Clerk Yahaya Danzaria explained that the matter is currently before the Court of Appeal and no administrative action can be taken until the judicial process is resolved. The Senate will notify her as soon as a decision is made.

Senator Natasha had earlier tried to resume her duties on July 12, following a Federal High Court judgment that asked the Senate to review her suspension. However, she was denied entry at that time.

Both the Senator and the National Assembly have appealed parts of the court’s judgment, which is still pending in the Court of Appeal.

The suspension originally came after a clash between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate President over seat allocations.

She also accused him of sexual harassment and claimed she was being targeted for rejecting his advances.
