The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final number of registered voters ahead of the Anambra governorship election.
The update was given on Thursday after the commission’s weekly meeting where officials discussed the final voters’ register.
According to INEC, the voter registration exercise was completed in all 326 wards of the state between July 8 and July 20, 2025.
A total of 168,187 people registered as new voters during the exercise. The commission displayed the list of the new registrants in every ward for public claims and objections as required by the Electoral Act 2022.
INEC explained that with the help of the Automated Biometric Identification System, it discovered 27,817 cases of multiple registrations, which were removed from the list.
After cleaning up the records, 140,370 new voters were confirmed valid. In addition, 5,983 people successfully transferred their voter registration into Anambra, bringing the total number of new voters to 146,353.
Before this exercise, Anambra State had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the new additions, the total number of eligible voters in the state is now 2,802,790.
INEC also shared the breakdown by local governments. Idemili North has the highest number of voters with 246,318, followed by Awka South with 216,611 and Ogbaru with 188,016.
On the other hand, Dunukofia has 83,580 registered voters, while Anambra West has the lowest with 71,332.
The electoral body assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants will be ready for collection before the election.
