US President Donald Trump once again sent a strong warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine. The warning came on Wednesday, September 3, when Trump was asked what message he had for Putin about the conflict.
Trump replied that he had no direct message but made it clear that Putin already knows his position. “Whatever choice he makes, we’ll either be pleased or displeased. And if we’re displeased, you’ll see things happen,” Trump said from the Oval Office, hinting at possible action.
The president became visibly annoyed when pressed on why his administration had not taken stronger measures against Russia. He defended his actions, pointing to sanctions placed on India for buying Russian oil. Trump argued that the sanctions had already cost Russia hundreds of billions of dollars.
He also warned that more actions could follow. “I haven’t even done phase two or phase three yet,” Trump added, suggesting more penalties could come if Russia continues the war.
Despite his tough talk, critics say Trump’s administration has been slow to introduce tougher sanctions on Russia as it continues efforts to negotiate a peace deal.
