Tinubu to commission 6,000MT Lithium processing plant in Nasarawa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon launch a newly built lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State. Governor Abdullahi Sule revealed this after meeting with the President in Abuja.

The new facility, with a capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes, was built by a Chinese investor. Governor Sule said the project is fully completed and ready for Tinubu to officially commission once he returns from his short vacation.

According to the governor, the new plant is a big step toward developing Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. He said, “This project shows our commitment to unlock the economic potential in mining.”

Governor Sule also reminded Nigerians that in 2024, Nasarawa already commissioned a 3,000MT lithium processing plant in the local government area. That earlier project boosted investor confidence and attracted new partners, leading to the completion of this larger facility.

He explained that investors were impressed by the quality and large deposits of lithium in Nasarawa, which pushed them to expand operations with this 6,000MT plant.

The governor described the project as a smart move for Nigeria because it will help reduce the export of raw minerals and instead build industries that add value locally.

Lithium is one of the most in-demand minerals worldwide. It is a major material used in making rechargeable batteries for electric cars and renewable energy storage.

With the rising global need for lithium, the Nasarawa plant is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s role in the international market, create more jobs, and grow the economy of the state.
