Eid-ul-Mawlid: FG declares Friday Sept. 5 public holiday

The Federal Government has announced that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday in celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday, September 3.

In the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.

He urged Muslims to live by the Prophet’s teachings of love, peace, humility, tolerance, and compassion, stressing that these values are key to building a united and progressive Nigeria.

The minister further appealed to Nigerians of all faiths to use this occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country while also supporting government initiatives that promote harmony and sustainable growth.
