Liverpool agree to sign Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace for £35m

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign England defender Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old is expected to complete his move on Monday in London, including undergoing a medical, before signing a long-term contract with the Premier League champions.

The clubs settled on a transfer fee after negotiations, with Liverpool initially offering £35m along with a 10% sell-on clause.

Guéhi is likely to be Liverpool’s second major signing on transfer deadline day, following their £125m deal with Newcastle for striker Alexander Isak.

On Sunday night, Guéhi captained Crystal Palace to a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in his final appearance for the club, scoring a stunning second goal in the match.

When asked about his future after the game, Guéhi focused on the team effort rather than his individual achievement. “All I know is when you score goals like that, it’s always down to the team,” he said.

Guéhi joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and became the club captain, making 155 appearances and helping the team win its first major trophy last season in the FA Cup final.

He has also represented England 23 times at the senior level.

With the additions of Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Giovanni Leoni, Liverpool’s spending this transfer window has reached around £451.2m, the highest in Premier League history without including add-ons.

At the same time, departures of players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, and Ben Doak have brought in about £190m.
