11-year-old boy shot and k!lled by Texas homeowner while playing ‘ding dong ditch’

An 11-year-old boy in Houston, Texas, was shot and killed on the night of Saturday, August 30, while playing a game of “ding dong ditch,” according to local authorities.

The boy and his friends were ringing doorbells and running away around 11 p.m. on Racine Street when a homeowner fired at them, the Houston Police Department said.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was quickly taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Lt. Amber Khan told KHOU 11 at the scene.

Sadly, the boy later died from his injuries, police confirmed in an update on Sunday, August 31.

One person was briefly held for questioning but has since been released, officials said.

Police are currently carrying out a search warrant as part of the ongoing investigation, KHOU 11 reported.

The prank, where kids ring a doorbell and run away to surprise homeowners, has become more popular on TikTok and has caused other deadly incidents in the U.S.

In a similar case last May, a Virginia homeowner allegedly shot and killed a high school student after the teenager and friends played the same “ding dong ditch” prank.
