A Nigerian woman, Eniola Adeniji, has revealed that her father’s family is angry with her for using her late mother’s maiden name on all burial materials.
She explained in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 27, that her parents had been separated for more than 30 years, even before her father’s death, and this was why she decided to honor her mother with her maiden name.
According to her, the family is also uncomfortable with the fact that she can give her mother a proper burial without depending on their financial support.
Eniola expressed her frustration, saying her father’s relatives are dragging her because the burial programs and death certificate carry her mum’s maiden name.
She noted that since her parents had been apart for decades, there was no reason to use her father’s name. She added that the woman who was once rejected gave birth to a strong daughter who now makes her own decisions.
She also made it clear that none of her father’s relatives contributed to the burial, so they have no right to dictate how things should be done.
Eniola further shared that she had cared for her mother for 15 years, including almost six years of illness, making it a total of 21 years of dedication.
With this in mind, she is proud and confident that she can give her late mother a befitting and dignified burial without anyone’s interference.
