Buba Galadima, a top leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has ruled out the chance of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso joining forces with President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 elections.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, August 18, Galadima accused Tinubu’s government of treating both Kwankwaso and the NNPP unfairly.
He pointed to the federal government’s alleged support for dethroned Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero against Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was reinstated by the Kano State government.
He questioned the government’s actions, asking how Kwankwaso could ever support the APC while the federal authorities were backing two emirs in one city.
Galadima also criticized the use of federal security forces to protect Ado-Bayero while ordinary communities in Kano still suffer from insecurity.
The NNPP stalwart made it clear that his party will be a key player in the 2027 elections, stressing that they are the ones who will decide who becomes the president of Nigeria.
Kano’s emirship has been a source of conflict for over a decade. Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, became emir in 2014 but was dethroned in 2020 by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
In May 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi, which has since led to legal and political battles.
Galadima argued that traditional matters are beyond the powers of the federal high court. He accused the Tinubu government of using security agencies to destabilize Kano and to shield Ado-Bayero for political advantage ahead of 2027.
He also reminded that no Nigerian monarch has ever decided the outcome of a presidential election.
He dismissed rumours that Kwankwaso might work with the APC, saying nobody can claim they convinced him to join.
According to Galadima, Kwankwaso remains one of the strongest politicians in the country because he boldly challenged the APC and defeated them in Kano.
