The identity of the feared terrorist leader Abubakar Abba, also known as Mamuda, has been revealed after his recent capture by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago confirmed the arrest in an official statement released on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Abba was apprehended in Wawa, a town in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, after several weeks of careful surveillance by security forces.
Mamuda, known as a dangerous bandit leader, has been accused of terrorizing communities in Kwara and Niger States, especially around the Kainji region, where he reportedly led multiple attacks, kidnappings, and killings.
Security expert Zagazola Makama noted that Abba was previously a member of the Abubakar Shekau faction of Boko Haram before moving to the North West, where he became involved in banditry.
Authorities say his capture was the result of persistent intelligence operations targeting high-profile criminals in the region.
Abubakar Abba is now in custody while investigators continue to examine his network and the full extent of his criminal activities.
