Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has received good news from aviation authorities.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced his no-fly ban to just one month. All criminal charges earlier filed against him have also been withdrawn.
In a surprising twist, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to make KWAM 1 an Ambassador for Aviation Security Protocol.
From controversy to comeback
The decision comes days after KWAM 1 was involved in a heated incident at Abuja’s domestic airport. Reports said the Fuji star had an altercation with airline staff while boarding a ValueJet flight.
The case quickly went public, and KWAM 1 faced a travel ban and criminal complaints. But after issuing a public apology and showing what officials called “true remorse,” the authorities decided to soften the punishment.
Why the ban was reduced
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo confirmed that the sanction was reviewed due to KWAM 1’s cooperation, apology, and willingness to work with authorities to promote better passenger behaviour.
What his new role means
As an Aviation Security Protocol Ambassador, KWAM 1 will join FAAN in campaigns to educate travellers on:
- Respecting airport security rules
- Avoiding prohibited items during travel
- Keeping calm and orderly during boarding
- Respecting airline staff and procedures
Officials believe his influence will help reduce passenger conflicts at airports across Nigeria.
What to expect next
- One-month ban takes effect soon as NCAA finalises dates
- FAAN’s new passenger education campaign featuring KWAM 1
- Possible nationwide airport sensitisation events with his participation
