James Aiyepeku, father of 26-year-old photojournalist Ayo Aiyepeku, who was murdered in Lokoja, Kogi State, has died just days after collapsing.
His family confirmed his death to TVC News on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Ayo, from Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was allegedly deceived and killed by a correctional service officer, Adebayo Pelumi.
The suspect reportedly ran away with Ayo’s body, leading to a police manhunt to find them.
Days later, the suspect’s body was discovered in a hotel in Lokoja.
At the scene, police found a bottle of poison and a handwritten note, with early investigations pointing to possible suicide.
Ayo’s body was later found in a bush near the Crusher area of Lokoja after days of searching and public concern.
Security officers took the body to the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja as investigations continue.
Before his own death, a grieving James Aiyepeku had spoken to the press, calling for justice for his son.
