Popular TikTok creator Peller has voiced his frustration over what he describes as an excessive tax bill from the Lagos State Government.
Speaking during a recent livestream with singer Peruzzi, Peller revealed that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service demanded that he pay ₦36 million as income tax.
“The taskforce told me I should pay ₦36 million in taxes. I don’t have that kind of money. I only became popular last year,” Peller complained.
In response, Peruzzi questioned why Peller hadn’t paid his taxes, reminding him that as a Nigerian, it is his duty to do so. “Do you know how much I pay in taxes? I won’t say the exact amount, but it’s even more than what they’re asking from you,” the singer added.
Peruzzi then advised Peller to pay the tax to avoid trouble with the law, warning that jail could be a consequence of ignoring it.
Peller, however, maintained that the amount was unreasonably high, pointing out that the government had never supported him in any of his TikTok activities.
He alleged that the authorities were targeting him because he had openly shown his assets and earnings from TikTok.
While Peruzzi urged him to request more time to settle the payment, Peller argued that his income comes from social media audiences abroad, not from within Nigeria.
