President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has chosen retired Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita to be the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The new appointment means AVM Kaita will take over from Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is currently serving as the Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

A statement released on Friday by the Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that the change was made so that Dr. Gawuna can fully focus on his new role at the mortgage bank.

AVM Saddiq Kaita is not new to leadership. Before he retired, he held several high-ranking positions in the Nigerian Air Force. These included Director of Strategy at the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation.

He is also known for his work in improving the training and efficiency of the Air Force, earning respect for his commitment to excellence and innovation.

With this new role, many are hopeful that AVM Kaita will bring the same energy and expertise to the academic environment at Bayero University.
