Very Dark Man, known in real life as Vincent Martins Otse, has addressed recent criticism from those who accused him of betraying Davido after he was seen with Burna Boy.
Many online users claimed he was being ungrateful to Davido, suggesting the singer had helped him in the past. Some went as far as calling him a “betrayer” for being seen with Burna Boy, a known rival of Davido.
Reacting to the backlash, VDM stated clearly that he has never collected any money from Davido. He explained that when he visited Lagos to see Davido, people assumed the singer paid for his trip and accommodation, but that wasn’t the case. He admitted to staying silent then because it added to the entertainment value of the moment.
He also clarified that Davido’s donation to his NGO wasn’t something he begged for. VDM recalled asking online about a certain donation, and although Davido said he wasn’t the sender, he later promised to contribute. According to VDM, that donation was voluntary and not requested.
He went further to say that no one in Davido’s 30BG crew can say he ever begged for or received money from them.
VDM also addressed his meeting with Burna Boy, saying it was simply a friendly encounter. He said they discussed topics like cars, Nigerian politics, and the everyday struggles of young people, and that Davido or any other artiste was never mentioned during the conversation.
He concluded by reminding his critics that he doesn’t belong to anyone. He insisted he has the right to speak his truth, associate with whoever he chooses, and criticise whoever he feels deserves it.
