A tragic incident happened in the Dogon-Ruwa community in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where a middle-aged man, Joseph Ayuba, suddenly died while trying to break up a fight between a husband and wife.
According to a community member named Barnabas Yakubu, the couple were neighbors to Ayuba. They had gotten into a physical fight after an argument, and Ayuba rushed out of his room to help stop the violence.
Yakubu explained that Ayuba had just returned from his farm last Tuesday evening around 5:23 p.m. He was about to take his bath when he heard the man beating his wife. Quickly, he dropped his sponge and water bucket and ran out to separate them.
Sadly, while trying to intervene, Ayuba collapsed unexpectedly.
People rushed him to a nearby clinic in Gawu town, but the doctors there confirmed that he had already died.
The traditional chief of the community was informed and immediately called in local vigilantes. He ordered them to arrest the couple involved in the fight. They were later handed over to the authorities in Gawu.
One of the vigilantes, Ibrahim, said that it was only a small misunderstanding between the couple that turned into a fight, leading to the sad death of Ayuba.
Ayuba’s body has been taken to his hometown, Paiko village in Niger State, where he has been laid to rest.
The police division in Gawu confirmed the incident and said that the case is currently under investigation.
