Six law students abducted while travelling from Onitsha to Adamawa state to resume Law school

Six Nigerian Law School students have been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be bandits while travelling to resume classes at the school’s Yola campus in Adamawa State.

The incident reportedly happened on the evening of Saturday, July 26, along the dangerous Wukari-Benue border road. That route is known for frequent kidnappings, robberies, and attacks by criminal gangs.

The students were said to be coming from Onitsha, Anambra State, after completing their mandatory court externship programme. They were on their way back to school, as the Yola campus is set to reopen on Monday, July 28.

Those abducted have been identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.

A spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Yahaya Suleiman, confirmed the incident but said it did not happen within Adamawa’s borders. He explained that the abduction occurred in a part of Benue State. He also mentioned that police and security teams in both states are working together to rescue the students.

He added that they are in constant contact with Benue State Police and other security agencies to ensure the students are found and brought back safely. He assured the public that the safety of those entering or leaving Adamawa is a top priority.

A recent update has revealed that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of twenty million naira for each student before they can be released.
