The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has died at the age of 71. He passed away on Friday, July 25, in Abuja after being sick for a long time.
Sulaiman Idis, who speaks for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, confirmed the Emir’s death. He said the governor was deeply saddened and offered his sympathy to everyone in the state.
Governor Lawal said losing the Emir was personal for him. He described the late ruler as a strong and reliable leader who always worked hard to help improve people’s lives in Zamfara.
In his message, the governor said, “It is with great sadness I received the news of the death of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello. I send my deepest condolences to the Zamfara Council of Chiefs, his family, Gusau Emirate, and the whole state.”
He praised the Emir’s hard work during his 10 years on the throne. He said the Emir was known for his strong faith, leadership, and commitment to serving his people.
The governor added that the Emir’s death was a big loss not only to Zamfara but to the northern region and Nigeria as a whole. He said he had lost a father figure and a wise advisor who helped guide him.
Governor Lawal prayed for the Emir, asking Allah to forgive his mistakes and give him a place in Aljannah Firdaus (Paradise).
Dr. Ibrahim Bello became the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, after his father died. Before becoming Emir, he worked as a civil servant and reached the top level as a Permanent Secretary in both old Sokoto State and Zamfara State. He served as Emir for 10 years.
