At least 15 people, including 14 villagers and a police officer, have lost their lives in two different attacks by unknown gunmen in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The first attack happened around 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The victims, mostly from Chirang community, were on their way back to Mangor village after visiting the Bokkos market.
Kefas Mallai, who is the Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, confirmed the sad event. He said the victims were ambushed by suspected terrorists while they were returning home.
Mallai explained that 14 villagers died during the ambush, and three others were injured. The attackers struck when the villagers were almost home.
He also mentioned that security forces had moved into the area to take charge and protect people from further harm.
Earlier that same day, another attack had occurred. A mobile police officer was killed while on duty at a checkpoint along Richa Road, still within Bokkos Local Government Area.
Mallai said this second incident made the situation even worse. He described how the officer was just doing his job when he was gunned down.
The Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Amalau, also confirmed the attacks. He called the situation an emergency and said they were rushing the injured victims to the hospital in Jos for treatment.
Police sources said that more security personnel have now been deployed to the affected area to help manage the crisis and restore peace.
