The Senate has said that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attempt to resume her duties was more like acting in a comedy skit than a serious return to legislative work.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, who speaks for the Senate, made this statement after Natasha showed up at the National Assembly on Tuesday, July 22. She had been suspended for six months after accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment and clashing with him publicly.
Natasha said she returned to work because a court in Abuja ruled that her suspension was too harsh and that she should be allowed back. Based on that, she went to the Senate chamber expecting to resume her duties.
But her entry was blocked. Security personnel at the National Assembly did not allow her to go in.
Speaking later in an interview on Channels TV, Senator Adaramodu explained that even if a court has made a ruling, Natasha has no right to act on it by herself. He said the Senate must handle the process officially.
“The National Assembly at large has a lot of roles to play. We are legislators and lawmakers, not spectators to be watching skit making and content creation.
Initially I said all these episodes and saga is all about content creation, now that the content has been created, it’s now degenerating into a season film.
We are not interested, we are lawmakers not actors, we are not interested in all these kinds of things.
Even when any litigant goes to court and gets judgement, either the person feels that this is an order when that is not an order, the litigant does not enforce the order by himself or herself.
“There are court bailiffs who will serve orders on those that should be served as prescribed by the court.
I know that Nigerians know that this is another skit making and a continuation of the content making episode by our own colleague.” he said
