Two players at Real Madrid are now top choices to take over the number 10 jersey left behind by Luka Modric.
Modric left the club a few weeks ago after Real Madrid was knocked out of the FIFA Club World Cup by Paris Saint-Germain.
His final match for the Spanish giants took place in that very tournament against PSG.
After the 2024/25 season ended, Real Madrid decided not to extend the 39-year-old midfielder’s contract.
Following his exit, Modric signed a new deal with Italian side AC Milan during the summer transfer window.
He officially joined the Serie A club on a one-year contract and is now preparing to start a new chapter in his career.
According to a report by Marca, Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler are the top contenders to inherit Modric’s number 10 shirt.
However, the club has not yet made a final decision on who will wear the iconic number going forward.
Meanwhile, Modric has spoken about how he hopes fans will remember him after leaving Real Madrid.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder said he’s proud to have won six UEFA Champions League titles and many other trophies — including LaLiga — during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu.
