IPOB, EndSARS: Sowore lists four major ‘sins’ of Buhari as Nigerians flashback

The news of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death has led to different reactions from Nigerians, with some showing sympathy and others reminding the public of his time in office.

Buhari passed away on Sunday in London after a short illness. His body is expected to arrive in Nigeria today for burial in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

While many people are paying tribute to the late leader, others are using this time to reflect on his administration and the problems they believe he caused. According to some citizens, his government was filled with insecurity, hunger, corruption, and the oppression of ordinary Nigerians.

Activist Omoyele Sowore took to Facebook to highlight four major things he believes Buhari did wrong as a leader.

Sowore accused Buhari of being responsible for the killing of many Shiite Muslims, including women and children, during his time as president.

He also pointed to the October 2020 #EndSARS protest, saying Buhari gave the military orders to shoot peaceful protesters who were waving Nigerian flags.

Another accusation from Sowore was about the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, also known as Dadiyata, a government critic and social media activist who went missing in August 2019.

The activist further claimed that Buhari targeted and killed young people from the South-East, whom he labelled as members of IPOB. Sowore also said the former president ignored court rulings, jailed critics without reason, damaged the economy, and made things worse in the country.

Sowore ended his post by rejecting the idea of mourning Buhari. He said that while some people are trying to glorify the former leader, others choose to remember the victims of his government’s actions.

Others, including Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Igboho, have also spoken out about the negative impact of Buhari’s presidency.
